You get 15 sheets of washi: 10 printed with the Heart Sutra in pale red plum characters to trace directly over, and 5 ruled sheets with the columns only, for when you're ready to write it freehand. The grid is printed in soft koubai red rather than black, so your own brush strokes sit on top clearly instead of fighting the guide.
A sutra brush pen is included, already sized for the columns, plus a printed model you can slide under a ruled sheet as an underlay. No calligraphy background needed. The appeal is the pace: a full copy takes a while, and the repetitive stroke work is the point, whether you're after a quiet hour, better handwriting, or a hands-on piece of Japanese culture to do with guests.
