The blade takes a keen edge and holds it through daily use; when it eventually dulls, a few passes on a whetstone bring it back fully.
The handle is painted in fine gold and silver detail on deep black lacquer: a cat mid-leap among cherry blossoms, with a dragonfly hovering nearby. The scene is intimate and unhurried — the kind of motif that rewards a second look. Made in Japan.
